I went on a local ghost tour tonight, with a few of my family members.
I love the idea of ghost tours – I’ve been on a few in Australia and on one overseas in Dublin which was excellent. But I always come away disappointed, because I never see anything remotely paranormal.
The tour last night was fascinating, in its teaching of local history and the strange experiences of its residents. I did wonder though whether one of the groups on the tour were scaring the ghosts off with their drunken and disrespectful behaviour (they were eventually kicked off).
On most of the ghost tours I’ve been on, participants are encouraged to take lots of photos, in case ‘orbs’ appear in the photos that do not appear before the eye. It is widely considered that these orbs are sources of paranormal energy, potentially from people who died at those sites. I took heaps of photos, and didn’t see anything in them. When I got home, I went through them again and did notice a couple of very light orbs, although I’m not necessarily convinced that these show evidence of paranormal activity.
It’s so frustrating though, because what could give me more proof of a spirit realm, than having a paranormal experience of my own? For the whole tour, I was craning all my senses, trying to heighten my meditative state and mentally crying out: Helloooo! Come and meet meee! But I got nothing. Zilch.
Oh well.

Win a Year's Worth of Psychic Services
A lovely psychic lady named Ricci-Jane, who I have previously been in contact with about my blog, forwarded me details of a competition in which one lucky person can win a year’s worth of psychic services.
To enter, Ricci-Jane would like you to place a vote for her in the international competition ‘the Next Top Spiritual Author’. Entrants can register their vote at http://www.nexttopauthor.com/profile.cfm?aid=1876, and then forward a confirmation email to ricci-jane@divinesisterhood.net to be in the running.
Please note that I have not utilised Ricci-Jane’s services, so I cannot necessarily endorse or... non-endorse (?) her, but I have to admit, the competition does look appealing!
Find out more about Ricci-Jane by visiting www.divinesisterhood.net.

Smudge Away
I gave my house a good smudging this morning. A smudging ceremony is essentially the burning of certain herbs or flowers to ‘purify’ a space. Readers in Australia may have heard of Aboriginal ‘Smoking Ceremonies’, where an Aboriginal elder uses a smoking stick to bless, or remove negative energies, from a room or building.
So I decided I would do some smudging in my house this morning, for a couple of reasons. My husband and I have had quite low and negative energy levels of late, and everything in the house keeps breaking down. We also hadn’t purified the house since moving in late last year, so it was probably good to remove any residual energy from the last tenants (who took all the sink plugs with them).
First of all, I did a massive clean of the house, partly because it seemed more appropriate to smudge in a clean space, but mostly because the house needed a really good clean. I was in quite a bad mood, so after I cleaned I did a short meditation which did me wonders.
Now to the smudging specifically – Most commonly, white sage is used; but other herbs and flowers, like rosemary and lavender, can also be used. I had lavender in my garden, so I used that. Basically, I gathered up a small bouquet of lavender, tied it with string, and did a quick blessing over it (stating my intention – to remove negative energies from the house). Then I held a flame to the end, until it started to smoke slightly. You don’t need a lot – just a whisper of smoke, and then you walk it from room to room, corner to corner. I had to re-light the lavender several times along the way.
So that’s all there is to it! I’d recommend doing it when you next clean the house – plus, it leaves a nice lavender smell.
