I tried my first Reiki session today, which was exciting (well not really, it was actually very relaxing, but I was excited to go...). For those that don’t know, Reiki is commonly understood as an alternative therapy; a technique whereby practitioners move healing energies through their palms.
Initially I booked the appointment because I was curious about the therapy itself, but as a chronic sinusitis sufferer (other sufferers will know it is difficult to cure) thought it would be useful to see whether it would have an effect on reducing my pain.
At someone else’s recommendation, I booked in with Linda, a Reiki Master who works at a local professional massage clinic. I liked Linda as soon as I met her – she was very calm and gentle-natured, and immediately made me feel comfortable. She led me to a small dimly-lit room with a massage table. The first difference between this and a regular relaxation massage, however, is that the client leaves their clothes on and faces up instead of face-down.
Linda explained that she works in channelling higher energies, and would use a combination of placing her palms directly on my body; and holding them slightly above me. For the following 60 minutes, she silently worked from my head to my feet. The effect I noticed the most was the heat – even when she wasn’t touching me I knew where she was because I could feel the warmth coming from her hands.
While Linda worked, I attempted to meditate. I have to admit; it wasn’t one of my finer times –because I was so aware that another person was in the room and it was difficult to let myself completely go. By the time Linda was working at my feet though, I’m pretty sure I was drifting in and out of sleep.
After the session, Linda gave me some feedback on what she had come across, which was a really nice way to end the session. She said she had a vision of me dancing at a highland dance, in the full tartan skirt, at a wedding. She also said that I was in good health, and very grounded.
In relation to the sinusitis, I’m not sure if it will have a long term impact – certainly I haven’t had a problem with it this afternoon, although it’s probably too soon to tell. I imagine that, like other therapies, it requires ongoing sessions. However it was a good experience, and I believe I’ll go back to have another go.
If you would like to know more information about the clinic, please contact me directly on psychic.journal@gmail.com and I will send you Linda’s contact details.

I am finding your blog interesting and it is making me more curious about psychic energy. I attended a ten day Vispassana meditation course several years ago, where one of the other students, who teaches yoga, introduced me to the concept of psychic energy. While I have not kept up the practice, the training made me more aware of the use of meditation as both a personal and therapeutic tool. The Vipassana experience also encouraged me to be open to the use of Mindfulness in my practice as a psychologist and I am planning to undertake additonal training into Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Mindfulness based CBT. I must admit to finding it very useful for some of my clients and am beginning to use the techniques more in my own life. I look forward to reading more about your experiences in this area.
