Distressing Dream

A few weeks back, I had a disturbing dream. After pondering it for a while, I wrote it off as a weird experience and didn’t write it up on here. But then a chat with a new friend made me revisit it.

I’ve always been a big (and crazy) dreamer and often don’t remember my dreams. But then I had one dream that was particularly vivid. I was seeing Washington DC after it had been devastated by a natural disaster, presumably an earthquake. I was being shown various scenes of the broken land, but kept seeing the Washington Monument, the giant obelisk that oversees the water. It had broken in half and fallen down into the water. I remember crying my heart out at the devastation.

When I woke up, it seemed such a strange dream to have, firstly because I have no connection with Washington (living in Australia and all) and don’t know anyone living there. It was also unusually vivid and real. I posted a question on a global psychic forum asking whether anyone else had experienced a similar dream, and didn’t get anything. So I wrote it off as just me being a little crazy.

Then a few days ago, I was telling a new friend about the dream to get his thoughts on it. He told me he believed it was a prophetic dream, but that perhaps it wasn’t to be taken literally. He noted that there were no people in the dream, and the devastation was on the land and buildings. He said that it was possible the obelisk represented America, and what I was actually seeing was the metaphorical downfall of America (particularly since Washington DC is the capital).

When he said that, scary as it felt, it made more sense than the literal devastation of Washington. But what I don’t get is; what’s the point? Why did I have that dream, and what am I supposed to do with it, if anything? That’s the main problem I’m having at the moment. Occasionally I see things during my meditations, that don’t seem to be just my creative brain. For instance, a few days ago while meditating I saw a young man with dark hair, wearing jeans and a red t-shirt on the edge of my vision. He walked out of a door and around the corner, and he didn’t pay me any attention. It was like he just slipped in by accident. But why be there at all, what does it mean?

  1. Hey Erin,
Try not to get too upset about this dream. I've had all sorts of similar dreams and they are usually symbolic.
I feel that your friend is right - that it is symbolic. Maybe you are concerned subconsciously about America as a nation (who isn't?!!) or maybe it does symbolise upcoming events regarding the structure of the country politically and socially. That is my feeling.
You are obviously awakening your psychic/intuitive self and at first it can be hard to make sense of the images and symbols and visions that come in.
I find that it's important to be the observer and not try to mentaise them too much or make logical sense of them.
The other realm operates differently and it's like learning a different language.
So be patient and calm and it will start to make more sense.
The man in your vision sounds interesting. Sounds like someone popping in to say hello!
    Blessings!
