Wiggy Ouija Boards

Nearly everyone has heard of Ouija Boards (pronounced ‘weegee’, or, as some think, ‘luigi’!), and many have had an experience with one through a séance, usually during their teenage years. I sat in on a séance at a friend’s thirteenth birthday party, and spent most of it sitting in someone else’s lap fervently hoping that nothing would happen (nothing did).

In case you don’t know, the Ouija Board is commonly understood to be a tool used to communicate with dead spirits, via the spirit moving a glass or token to letters of the alphabet on a board, to spell out words to the sitters. A very kitsch picture can be found here: http://www.iwatchstuff.com/2008/05/29/ouija-board-movie.jpg (it’s worth it just to see the lady’s purple twin set).

So anyway, over the last few days I’ve been asking around to ascertain what practicing psychics and others in the field think about Ouija Boards. Is it just the general community that thinks they’re creepy, or do psychics dislike them too?

The general response; was that practicing psychics considered Ouija Boards to be extremely unreliable, and untrustworthy. Many believe that Ouija Boards attract ‘lower forms’ of energy rather than the spirits of our loved ones. The use of Ouija Boards was likened to picking a random number out of the phone book, and hoping it will be your Grandmother on the other end.

I must say, I was surprised to hear this; as I would have thought Ouija Boards were quite simply a tool, with the intent and skill of the sitter more likely to determine the outcome.

Having said that, I wouldn’t want to do one in my house.

Chakras

I’m sorry I haven’t posted in a while; unfortunately work is getting the better part of my time at the moment!

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking, researching and focusing on ‘chakras’ of late. A simplistic definition, chakras are described as energy sources, located at various parts of the human body. While there are differing views as to exactly how many chakras there are, it is common understanding that there are seven main chakras, which are placed along the spine in ascending order from the tailbone to the top of the head. Some information on each of the chakras can be found at: www.sacredcenters.com/chakras.

It took me quite a while to get my head around each one; as they each have their own colours, meanings, purposes, and some even say, sounds. It is understood that for optimum health and wellbeing, all the chakras should be in good order. The purposes of each chakra represent various aspects of our emotional, physical, mental and spiritual selves. Specific strategies can be employed to strengthen certain chakras, where they may be considered to be an area of weakness.

You may have heard of the ‘third eye’, which is the sixth chakra. This is located on the brow/forehead, and is represented by the colour purple. It is through this chakra that the psychic realm can be accessed.

I have a little trouble with the idea of chakras, and am trying to learn more about them, in particular, their origins and how they were identified. However, I do find the idea of them useful in aiding meditation, because it requires me to pull my focus to a specific area of my body (starting at the tail bone), and move through the chakras in ascending order. Unfortunately I often fall asleep before I get to the higher ones...

Tarot Training (Part Two)

I’ve finished the Major Arcana in the Tarot Card course! Having said that, it’s an on-going process of learning the cards and understanding them in various contexts; but I have completed the initial familiarisation process with them.

As I discussed in the first Tarot Training blog, there are 78 cards in a Tarot set. The Major Arcana constitute the first 22, and are considered to be the most important cards. The remaining cards are divided into four suits, similar to a set of playing cards, with the suits being Swords, Wands, Cups and Pentacles.

The process so far has been to go through a process of spending time with each Major Arcana card, to identify the key elements and feelings invoked by each card, and how this might be interpreted in a reading. There’s also the opportunity to get feedback and guidance from a lady who is very experienced in using the cards.

On another topic, I’m still feeling a little ‘blah’ about all of this. I’m feeling very jealous, at the moment, of those people I keep coming across who have paranormal and psychic experiences without even wanting them. I wish it were a little easier for me!

Crisis of Faith

I’m having a real crisis of faith at the moment, which has been reinforced with the recent earthquake in Chile. It seems there’s a disaster every week. I should highlight straight up, that this (latest) crisis of faith isn’t about the validity of psychic gifts, rather the purpose of their existence.

I’ve mentioned the global forum I’m part of – for your reference, the website is www.psychic-forum.com. It’s for practicing psychics, mediums and healers; along with people who are looking to develop their skills in this area. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to further their knowledge about this.

So anyway, I posted a comment about my crisis of faith on this forum. I couldn’t understand why, when there is a collective of people with exceptional talents, gifts and skills; connection to the spiritual side of life; and at the very least, the best intentions; that we couldn’t all work together to fix the world. Before it falls apart even more. I’ve heard about Intention Experiments and such, but I’m not sure if there’s evidence as to whether they are effective or not.

The responses from other forum members were as I expected, really – focused on seeing the positive aspects of life; that there are things in life we cannot control (particularly related to nature); and that supporting individuals is just as important.

Working in the community sector, of course I appreciate the value of supporting people at a local level. But sometimes I wonder, is this enough? But why does this amazing gift exist, if we can’t band together and heal the world?
