I’m sorry I haven’t posted in a while; unfortunately work is getting the better part of my time at the moment!
I’ve been doing a lot of thinking, researching and focusing on ‘chakras’ of late. A simplistic definition, chakras are described as energy sources, located at various parts of the human body. While there are differing views as to exactly how many chakras there are, it is common understanding that there are seven main chakras, which are placed along the spine in ascending order from the tailbone to the top of the head. Some information on each of the chakras can be found at: www.sacredcenters.com/chakras.
It took me quite a while to get my head around each one; as they each have their own colours, meanings, purposes, and some even say, sounds. It is understood that for optimum health and wellbeing, all the chakras should be in good order. The purposes of each chakra represent various aspects of our emotional, physical, mental and spiritual selves. Specific strategies can be employed to strengthen certain chakras, where they may be considered to be an area of weakness.
You may have heard of the ‘third eye’, which is the sixth chakra. This is located on the brow/forehead, and is represented by the colour purple. It is through this chakra that the psychic realm can be accessed.
I have a little trouble with the idea of chakras, and am trying to learn more about them, in particular, their origins and how they were identified. However, I do find the idea of them useful in aiding meditation, because it requires me to pull my focus to a specific area of my body (starting at the tail bone), and move through the chakras in ascending order. Unfortunately I often fall asleep before I get to the higher ones...
