I’ve tried out a few different meditations during the last week. Shorter, self-directed ones (ten minutes or so) in which I just focus on the quiet and my breathing; and which serve really just to clear my mind and ‘centre’ myself. I’ve also tried longer pre-recorded (e.g. CDs) guided meditations from clairvoyants (about 30 – 45 minutes). While these were interesting and relaxing, I didn’t feel able to enter a meditative state – and that I wasn’t able to keep up with the pace. One of these guided meditations was a journey, taking the individual to a number of places. I kept thinking: Slow down! I haven’t got there yet! I was always running to keep up.
The third type of meditation I’ve been trying, which seems to suit me more; is a longer, self-directed meditation (30 – 45 minutes – although not timed, I just finish when it feels right). My beautiful crystals have arrived, and I usually select a few and have them near, or on me, while I meditate. I say a protective prayer and then focus on visualising the white light around myself.
It is during these meditations, often about 20 minutes in when I’m super relaxed, that I begin to notice things. Sometimes I get flashes of something (a word, or an image) and if I’m not ‘awake’ or self-aware enough to notice them, they disappear within a second.
Today, my good husband went out to the hardware shop, and as soon as he’d gone, I turned off the TV, selected a few crystals and lay down to meditate. Some time in, I had a random flash of a rabbit. A white rabbit, sitting in the grass on a hill, a couple of metres away from me. The image very nearly slid away from me, unnoticed, until I latched onto it at the last second and brought it back. I started watching the rabbit, which was very calm and unmoving. The song Run Rabbit Run popped into my head. Run Rabbit, Run Rabbit, Run Run Run. Don’t give the Farmer his Fun Fun Fun (I had heard this song before, but didn’t know who wrote it. For your information, it was written in 1939 by Noel Gay and Ralph Butler).
I looked at the rabbit, but it stubbornly refused to budge. I could sense the song (i.e. the danger) was coming from behind me. I walked over to the rabbit, and sat down on the grass next to it. Together, we looked up to see what we were being told to run away from. There was nothing there. Nothing to be afraid of.
I finished the meditation when my good husband came home and loudly professed ‘what are you doing!?’ and consequently hopped (pardon the pun) onto the internet. I found a website called Shamanism: Working with Animal Spirits (http://www.animalspirits.com/index1.html), which included a description of the rabbit as an animal spirit. The characteristic that stood out to me was: Moving through fear.

Spiritual Songs?
I read recently that sometimes when you get a song stuck in your head out of the blue, it may be a message. I would have thought this to be a little strange, if I didn’t often get very random songs in my head, seemingly from nowhere (for example, I’ll wake up with it).
This would make sense if I was into music, but... I’m not (sorry – from what I’ve been told this is a terrible offense). Despite being under the age of 30, I’m not at all up-to-date with the latest music, and prefer to listen to ABC talk-back radio rather than Triple J.
So I’ve started making a note of the songs, when they pop in, to keep a record but also to work out if these songs mean anything.
I have to warn you this is going to start sounding a little crazy from here.
Last night when I went to bed, I lay there in the dark and said my usual protective prayer. Then I asked if my guides were out there; and if so, welcomed them to introduce themselves to me in my dreams. About 8 years ago, as a teenager, I was extremely depressed and dreamed one night that my grandmother (who died 11 years ago) came to visit, and held my hand. She didn’t say anything, but just stood next to me as if to say everything would be alright. In my dream, I was terrified (she was the last person I was expecting to see in my lounge room), and screamed at the top of my lungs. She went away, and I never saw her in my dreams again. But because of this, I’ve often wondered whether our dreams do have the ability to provide a bridge to another realm.
So anyway, I sent off the message to my guides and tried to go to sleep. I couldn’t sleep for the life of me – probably because I’d stayed up too late watching the tennis the night before. So after a while, I got out of bed to watch some television. Shortly after I realised a snippet of a song was repeating itself over and over in my head – Elvis Presley’s Return to Sender. Just those lyrics: Return to Sender. Return to Sender. What? I don’t even like Elvis music!
I wondered for ages what on earth could have put that in my head. It didn’t make any sense to me. It was completely random. Then it clicked – what if? No, surely not – not a response to my message to my guides, right? Right? I feel a little silly even writing it down (let alone publicly), but it seemed too strange for me not to put up here.
Am I being ridiculous? This is not a rhetorical question; I’d actually appreciate your thoughts.

All Things Auras (Part Two)
I’ve been practising seeing auras for a little while every day. It’s fascinating, and a little consuming. I now often find myself in work meetings (boring ones) staring at the person sitting opposite me at the table, trying to see their aura. At first it required an immense amount of concentration, but I’m starting to find it easier (to do it without the person noticing!).
What is interesting though, is that most of the aura colours I see tend to be light blue or green. I did read somewhere that newbies will see blue and white most commonly. I associate the blue aura with intelligence (a human kind of intelligence, rather than an academic one), and creativity. I’m not sure if I’m just seeing a lot of blue because I’m a beginner; or because all the people I work with are highly intelligent and creative (this is true).
When I try to see my own aura, I usually see a light, bright green. I’m not sure what this means. I also tried to see an aura around someone in a photo, and saw a yellow one.
Generally, I’m feeling extremely drained and washed out at the moment. I’m not sure if I’m just coming down with a bug; or whether I’m pushing myself too hard with all of this; or if I’m doing something wrong and my energy is being pulled away.

Complementary Crystals
I am pleased to say that since my last post, I have done a short meditation (10 minutes) each morning before work. I’m not sure why, but I felt it was better to do it during the daytime, rather than at night (is that weird?).
As I do sometimes find it difficult to concentrate, I thought I would look into getting some crystals to support me in meditating, and also to keep things positive. I have to be honest and say that one of my fears in this process is that by trying to open up my mind, I might open it up to things uninvited. I’m hoping the crystals will help me with this. Because of this, each night and before meditating I ask for protection from darkness.
After reading up on the Internet on other people’s experiences of crystals, I went to www.crystalcreekproducts.com.au and bought the following crystals:
• Agate Blue Lace: Described as helping one to reach high spiritual places, and used for inner attunement. To be honest, I couldn’t go past this one simply because it was so beautiful...
•Amethyst: Described as a stone of spirituality and contentment; and excellent for meditation.
•Hematite: Described as excellent for grounding.
•Mookite: Described as imparting a desire for new experiences, and the deep calm with which to face them.
•Obsidian: Described as an excellent grounding stone that shields against negativity.
•Quartz: Described as excellent for giving and receiving energy.
•Red Jasper: Described as a stone that is worn for protection, to protect against negativity and be grounded to Earth.
•Smokey Quartz: Described as an excellent grounding stone, aiding meditation and stimulating higher awareness.
I’m interested to know whether anyone has any feedback on this choice of crystals, particularly for a beginner.

Email Psychic Reading with Sarah
I feel ready to face this now the worst of my coffee withdrawals have passed! I had planned to start meditation on Monday but was too absorbed in my headaches and weariness. But I’m getting back to normal now (and feeling better for it) which is great. My aim is to do my first short meditation tomorrow morning, if I can just stop myself from pressing snooze on my alarm!
On another topic, I was very lucky to be offered a free email reading by a lovely psychic named Sarah who lives in Queensland. I will provide her contact details below, but first want to provide some information on how the reading went.
Sarah contacted me after viewing my second post, in which I relayed my recent personal in-person reading with a psychic in my home town (who confused me with someone she had met briefly, with the same name as me). Sarah very generously offered to give me a free email reading to counter my negative experience, despite having a very busy and successful business already. She said I could send her up to 6 questions, and a photo of myself, via email and she would get back to me within a few days.
The questions I asked Sarah related to my short-term future, challenging times or experiences I could prepare for, my marriage, the future for my sister, and whether I was on the right path in life. My understanding of Sarah’s practice is that she uses these questions to guide her through a dedicated hour of psychic channelling, and then provides her response in the form of a narrative, allowing her to expand on particular themes that come through.
My experience with Sarah was extremely positive. She articulates herself beautifully, and focuses on strengths, whilst still maintaining honesty. Along with picking my character to a tee, she also accurately reflected my husband (and marriage); and my sister. Sarah did well to identify and appease some quite hidden worries I have, but also to warn me about particular situations I need to be careful in. Perhaps most interestingly, my husband (who thinks this is all ridiculous) was quite astonished by the accuracy of the reading. I will undoubtedly be seeking guidance again from Sarah in the future.
Sarah’s Contact Details: Visit Sarah’s website, Healing Messages, at http://www.healingmessages.net/index.html. Sarah provides in-person, phone and email readings (email readings include ‘mini-readings’ or full readings); along with energy healing.

I Bid You Adieu, Coffee...
Sadly, as of today, I’ve given up my daily coffee. This was following a couple of things – firstly, a psychic recommended I drink less coffee (more on that later this week). Secondly, my latest research findings recommended that I limit my caffeine and alcohol intake, in order to increase the benefits of meditation.
I don’t think I can remove alcohol from my life altogether quite yet. Not because I’m a raging binge-drinker (only a couple of times a year, anyway...) but because I do enjoy a glass of wine with dinner. I actually prefer drinking coffee to alcohol, but feel that cutting out the caffeine would be better for my health (and sleeping habits); rather than cutting out the odd glass of wine.
I’m not sure why I decided to do this on a Monday; and also on the day my boss returned to work and I was expected to have half a brain. Additionally; I’m at least three times more productive when I’ve had a coffee in the morning. However, I resisted the urge, and drank Earl Grey tea all day instead (equally delicious, if not quite as stimulating). If I can get through withdrawals over the next couple of days, I’m sure I’ll be fine!

Why do This?
I’ve had mixed responses from readers to this blog. Firstly, I’d like to thank all the people that emailed me about it, and encourage you to keep leaving comments. Largely, I have received a positive and supportive response to this journey, which I very much appreciate. One person, a psychic, told me that I was doing this out of fear; and looking to debunk the psychic field. She also stated that it was wrong for me to be a ‘messenger’, in recording my experiences objectively.
Consequently, I do feel the need to provide further clarifications for those people who might misunderstand my intentions. She was right, in a way, that there is an element of fear in this journey, but it’s not that I might find some truth to it; it’s that I will find quite the opposite – nothing. That would be devastating. However, I don’t think it will be the case.
I believe I have to record my experiences honestly and accurately, as not to do so would be lying. The psychic who emailed me explained that not everyone is meant to be psychic or clairvoyant, which I appreciate. While I am seeking to expand my own mind and abilities, I am under no delusion that I will become psychic tomorrow, or perhaps ever. Rather, I aim to fulfil my own potential, whatever that is.

All Things Auras! (Part One)
I thought a good start to this might be to learn more about auras, and begin the process of training myself to see them. I wasn’t quite sure how to start, so with a little bit of embarrassment, I googled ‘how to see auras’. I expected to have to search for a good website, but the first one that came up was a bit of a gem (at least I thought so): www.thiaoouba.com/seeau.htm.
Although the website provides a definition of an aura, it was a little too technical for my brain to understand, and so I include this definition instead: A distinctive, but intangible quality that seems to surround a person or thing (www.thefreedictionary.com/aura).
The website explains that the colours and intensity of the aura around someone have very special significance, and can be described as a spiritual signature. They describe that a person with a bright, clean aura is ‘good and spiritually advanced’. A person with a grey or dark aura may have unclear intentions. The website also states that while everyone has an aura, most people have weak or dull auras, due to our lifelong materialistic attitudes, and cultivation of fear, envy and jealousy.
I promised myself that I would follow the steps carefully, and not get too excited and ahead of myself. The website explains that the ability to see an aura is about training our eyes, to increase their sensitivity and ‘extend the range of perceived vibration beyond the visible light’. Because the central part of our eyes have been damaged to due long-term exposure to artificial lights (such as televisions and computers), we need to learn to use our peripheral vision.
The first exercise on the website was to learn to use my peripheral vision. The exercise graphic depicts a large, bright red dot (on the left); and large, bright blue dot (on the right), and a tiny black dot in the middle. I was instructed to stare at the tiny black dot, and observe what was happening to the red and blue dots in my peripheral vision.
Nothing happened for a little while. And then – WOW! A thin line of bright turquoise appeared around the edges of the red dot. As I kept concentrating (the problem was that as I noticed something happening, I’d get excited and immediately lose my concentration) the blue aura became a little stronger and broader, and seemed to shimmer around the dot. I started to pay more attention to the large blue dot on the right, and a similar red aura appeared. Amazing!
When I read on through the website, I was pleased to see that I was indeed supposed to see a turquoise and a red aura. I found out that solid colours come in ‘auric pairs’, including:
•Red gives turquoise aura, and vice versa
•Orange gives blue aura, and vice versa
•Yellow gives violet aura, and vice versa
•Green gives pink aura, and vice versa
I spent the rest of the morning trying out various solid colours around the house. But I loved the brilliant turquoise aura of the colour red the most – it was gorgeous. My husband came downstairs and found me intently staring at a red Christmas Stocking and thought I’d gone crazy (even more-so when I told him I was learning how to see auras). I was going a little cross-eyed, and so decided to give it a rest for the day. The website also encourages shorter bursts of intensive training; rather than a very long stint all in one go.
You’ll notice this blog is ‘part one’ as I imagine learning to see auras will be a long, step-by-step process, and I will of course provide more updates as I go. The information about auras provided in this blog is from the following website: www.thiaoouba.com/seeau.htm.

A New Year Psychic Reading
To celebrate this New Year (and to attempt to appease my uncertainty of what it could bring), I visited a local psychic and medium for a personal reading. We shall call her Jan.
In fact, it was my experience with Jan that gave me the idea to start this blog.
I was a little nervous to begin with, mainly because the reading was held in her house – previously I’d only gone to shopfronts or ‘expos’. I also hadn’t let anyone know where I was going, lest they try and talk me out of the ‘ridiculous waste of money’. So off I went, to the unknown Southside of town, with the plan to tell my psychic that my husband knew exactly where I was and was in fact just around the corner at the shops. But the house looked quite normal (for the Southside, anyway), and as I crept up the driveway I could hear a cheery-sounding lady talking loudly on her phone.
When I see a psychic, I don’t try to hide anything, by dressing differently or using a different name to test them. I intentionally try to be very open-minded, so it’s not my own negativity or deceit that might disturb them. Really, I want them to succeed. Especially if I’m paying all that money.
But it didn’t bode well when Jan answered the door. ‘Did you have any trouble finding the place? Oh well, of course you wouldn’t; you live on the Southside don’t you.’
‘Er, no – I’m from the Northside actually.’
This was the start of a long series of quite blatant mistakes, from guessing I had a brother rather than a sister; that I was being bothered by a male at work (when in fact they’re all female bar one, who’s a very lovely gentleman); and that I had just split up from my boyfriend. In fact, I married only two months ago. Jan then suggested that we were having teething problems and I had to assure her that we have been unofficially married for over 5 years and were actually fine. At one stage, I wondered if she was actually somehow channelling my sister, as the circumstances she was describing seemed more suited to her.
The crowning moment was when Jan announced, ‘You’ve had a big change in your employment in the last few months – but of course, that’s when you moved from FAHCSIA to DEEWR’ [Australian Government Departments].
What? I’ve never worked in either of those departments, and in fact not worked for the Government at all. Nor do I intend to. Actually, I hadn’t even changed jobs in the last three years. I had to let that one slide though; I couldn’t bear having to disagree with her again.
All in all, the hour was a little embarrassing for both of us; at least until we started talking about the practice of psychics’, and how they develop their skills, rather than my personal forecast. From there, Jan was a wealth of information. She pointed me towards a number of websites and books (which will be reviewed here at some point), and most importantly spoke about the importance of ‘psychic protection’. She explained that psychic protection involves a number of processes, some verbal and some material, that all psychics must undertake to ensure they are protected from negative forces; and give thanks and respect to their guides and angels. It certainly highlighted the importance to me of looking into psychic protection before I attempt to develop my own skills.
Later that night when I got home, I had an email in my inbox from Jan. She explained, and apologised, for confusing me with a woman she had met of the same age at her husband’s Christmas Party. She had only met my namesake briefly, and when I contacted her shortly after, assumed it was one and the same. My full name is not overly common, so I can see how she would make the mistake.
Jan assured me that her confusion had no bearing on the reading she gave me (really?). So unfortunately, I am left no more or less convinced than I was prior to the reading; and not particularly enlightened about what 2010 could bring. I would have been bitterly disappointed by the experience, had I not at the time had the idea to start this project and blog and find out more about it. So thank-you to Jan for that!
Starting Off
I have always been interested in 'psychic stuff'. I have always wanted to believe in it. But I’ve never been able to convince myself completely – the evidence for and against the existence of a psychic realm is a little inconsistent.
Everyone has a story, about themselves or a friend who had a psychic experience that seemed more than coincidental. On the other hand, at least in everyday life, we hear of these experiences so rarely that on the whole perhaps they are just coincidences.
It doesn’t help that only a very few people seem to be blessed with psychic abilities. How do we know if we’re being taken for a ride? Or if they’re just a little bit crazy?
I’ve been to a few psychics for personal readings over the last 5 years. Mostly, they were either completely off the mark or a little too vague. However, there was one; that was spot on with minute and accurate detail. I was told I would receive a small white car that would have wheel alignment problems, that my Mother had had ongoing problems with her knee; and that my parents would separate (and then get back together). All of this was true. For the record, I didn’t buy a small white car to fulfil my own prophecy – my grandparents gave it to me as my first car, and shortly after it had to go into the shop for a wheel alignment.
One message I have picked up along the way, is that while a lucky few are born with natural psychic ability, we all have the potential to develop and expand our own.
So, in order to find out once and for all, I will learn more about this field and seek to develop my own skills along the way. I will aim to regularly record my experiences along the way, for my benefit and for anyone who might want to listen. I’m a little apprehensive, but excited about finding some kind of truth; even if it’s that there is nothing out there at all. Wish me luck!
